New Season, New Focus (and a Few Fun Announcements)

November 17, 2025

Hello Reader,

I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting this season — the kind that comes from stepping back, taking a breath, and looking honestly at what kind of work actually lights me up. I realized I’ve been offering too much, doing work that was fine… but not work that energizes me or fits the direction I want to grow.

All of that reflection has led me to simplify. I’m narrowing my focus, choosing the work that feels good for my energy, my creativity, and my life. And the best part? Making that space has opened the door to some really exciting things... including new 2026 speaking engagements and two classes I’ll be teaching through the Denver Botanic Gardens.

More details about both are below, but thank you for being here while I figure out how to keep doing this work in a way that feels genuine and sustainable.

Updates

🎨 In the Studio:
Since my last newsletter I have completed some more fun classes with Denver Botanic Garden's School of Botanical Art and Illustration. I got to learn more about watercolor in Watercolor 1, how to label botanical illustrations in Labeling Botanical Illustrations: Scientific & Common Names, how to make paper flowers in Forever Blooming: Paper Flowers, and how to render trees in graphite and ink in Drawing Trees in Graphite and Ink. I have one more for the year — Saturated Subjects in Colored Pencil. (You can see more of my illustrations on Instagram.) The next session is live and ready for registration, so I'm excited to tackle some more classes in the new year.

📝 In the Office:
Fall has been busy with client work, but mainly focused on getting the Outdoor Professional Conference put together. The conference was last week and, in my opinion, a great success! I am also working on switching to a new AMS with a client, so that will be a lot more time and energy through the remainder of the year.

Speaking Engagements

Outdoor Marketing Bootcamp: February

I’m thrilled to be speaking at two sessions for the 2026 Outdoor Marketing Bootcamp — one on practical design skills for non-designers, and one (with Bekah Price) full of tools and systems for many-hats marketers.

Procreate for Beginners (Tuesday, March 10)

Learn the essentials: tools, brushes, layers, color, exporting — everything you need to start creating digitally. You’ll even make a small botanical motif to build your confidence and workflow.

Procreate for Botanical Illustration (Tuesdays: April 7, 14 & 21)

For those wanting to go deeper: we’ll use Procreate for sketch refinement, composition planning, value studies, color exploration, and transferring your digital work to paper. Perfect for anyone wanting to bridge digital + traditional botanical art.

Let's stay connected!

Art Instagram — to see my progress making botanical art

I'm also considering building an accountability group of up to five creatives. I'm still thinking this through, but if this may be of interest to you, send me a message to let me know!

Thanks so much for reading and being a part of my journey!

July 18, 2025 Hello Reader, This summer’s been full — of trailhead moments, big creative energy, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work. I just wrapped up my blog series Make Your Own Map, a candid look at what it really takes to carve out a creative career in the outdoor space — especially if your path looks a little different. Whether you’re a guide-turned-creative or a desk-job-escapee (like me!), I hope this series helped you feel a little more grounded — or at least less alone. Missed a...

September 29, 2023 Hello Reader, It is crazy to believe September is coming to an end! This month has been a whirlwind. I started a new contract role on September 1 and I've also been working in my office! Things have been so busy around here I haven't had much time to think about this newsletter, let alone get a blog out or add a new product to my store. So a brief update from me: My new contract role is with the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP). I'm also still working with...
